Question Is it true that there's a shortage of organic milk?
Answer

More and more shoppers are discovering the health benefits, environmental advantages and delicious taste of organic dairy products. Demand for organic milk has been increasing at double-digit rates – over 20 percent last year alone. Because it takes about three years to convert a farm to organic, the supply has lagged behind this skyrocketing demand. Horizon OrganicŪ is doing all we can to recruit new organic farmers and boost organic productivity.

Question Is there a danger that the organic dairy industry will grow too fast, and that we'll end up with a surplus of milk?
Answer

Not the way we see it. In the next five years, to keep up with customer growth, organic dairy producers will need 168,000 more cows and 458,000 more acres. That's a sizable goal, and we'll have to get there the old-fashioned way... slowly.

Question What is Horizon Organic doing to increase the supply?
Answer

We're helping as many farms as possible transition to organic through our HOPE program. Our existing farmer partners receive a stable, premium contract price for their milk, which enables them to make the investments they need to grow. We're also planning responsible, sustainable growth at our company-owned farms.
