Question
What is NutraFlora®?
Answer NutraFlora®, also know as fructan or fructooligosaccharide (FOS), is a soluble dietary fiber naturally found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains such as bananas, barley, garlic, honey, onion, rye, brown sugar, tomato and asparagus root. It acts as a food source for your own friendly intestinal bacteria, and enhances calcium absorption. NutraFlora® is consumed by healthy intestinal bacteria-the same friendly bacteria that help strengthen the immune system, fight infection, help digest food, and even promote regularity.

Question
How does NutraFlora® work?
Answer NutraFlora® passes to the lower intestines undigested where it becomes a food source for healthy native bacteria. Keeping these friendly bacteria healthy and happy helps them to defend the lower intestinal tract from bad bacteria that may cause illness.

Question
What are the benefits?
Answer Eating foods that contain NutraFlora® every day has been shown to:
  • Increase calcium and magnesium absorption.
  • Help maintain a healthy immune system-as good bacteria increase, harmful bacteria are crowded out, along with the toxic substances they produce.
  • Foster proper digestive function.
  • Support healthy cholesterol metabolism.
  • Promote regularity—NutraFlora® provides all the benefits of a soluble fiber
  • Support the growth of active cultures in yogurt products

Question
How do these benefits apply to yogurt?
Answer When added to yogurt, NutraFlora® provides the ability to more effectively absorb calcium and magnesium. Our yogurts contain probiotics, the live and active cultures that promote balanced intestinal health, and NutraFlora® is a food source for these bacteria. Giving your digestive tract necessary, friendly bacteria and providing an all natural food source for them as well, is a perfect balance for enhancing your immune system.

Question
Is NutraFlora® safe for my children?
Answer NutraFlora® is safe and effective. It is a natural soluble fiber, that is Kosher and Halal certified and is FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe). The type of soluble fiber contained in a yogurt serving is the same type of fiber a child would consume by eating a normal quantity of fruits and vegetables. NutraFlora® has been used in more than 500 food products around the world for nearly 20 years. For more information, visit the NutraFlora® website at www.nutraflora.com.

Question
Is NutraFlora part of a natural diet?
Answer Yes. NutraFlora®, or fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is produced by a natural fermentation process, similar to the fermentation method used to make yogurt. FOS is naturally found in fruits, vegetables and grains, however it would take a pound or more of fruits and vegetables to get the same amount of FOS found in 1 serving of our yogurt with added NutraFlora®.

Question
How does NutraFlora® enhance calcium and magnesium absorption?
Answer When NutraFlora® supports probiotic bacteria in the intestine, these beneficial cultures produce short chain fatty acids (SCFA). These acids are crucial for health. They increase calcium carriers in the gut and keep calcium and magnesium in an optimal solution for enhanced absorption.

Question
How does NutraFlora® support cholesterol metabolism?
Answer The short chain fatty acids (SCFA) produced by beneficial intestinal cultures are highly beneficial substances. One of these fatty acids, propionate, works in the liver to reduce cholesterol production. Other benefits of SCFA's include the ability to bind with cholesterol and bile acids in the intestine to move them out quickly keeping them from circulating back to the liver to be recycled into new cholesterol.

Question
What is the importance of intestinal bacteria to health?
Answer Everyone's digestive system is home to hundreds of different species of both beneficial and potentially harmful bacteria. These intestinal bacteria exist in a delicate balance that influence the way we digest food and absorb nutrients. An optimal balance of power between friendly and unfriendly bacteria must be maintained for good health.
Our friendly bacteria play a critical role in many aspects of our immune responses. They help us to resist infection, and keep the potentially harmful bacteria at bay by helping control their population. They also fight toxins and other internal stresses that can threaten our health.

Question
What are friendly bacteria and what is the benefit of increasing their population?
Answer Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli are considered friendly intestinal bacteria because they help to digest food and boost the body's resistance to infection and disease. The primary role of friendly bacteria is to defend the lower intestinal tract from bad bacteria such as E. coli and Clostridia. More good bacteria makes the intestinal environment slightly acidic which is not desirable for the potentially harmful bacteria.

Question
Why are some intestinal bacteria considered unfriendly and what encourages their growth?
Answer Clostridia and E. coli species are two of the many potentially unfriendly bacteria in your digestive tract. In large numbers, they can produce an excess of toxins which can be harmful to certain organs decreasing the body's resistance to infection and disease. Many factors influence the growth of the bad bacteria such as age, stress, antibiotic therapy, disease, and diet.

Question
How much NutraFlora® is needed per day to get the benefits?
Answer NutrafFlora® should be part of an every day diet to obtain the full health benefits. For children, it is recommended to start with one gram per day and increase as necessary. For an adult, it is also recommended to start with one gram per day and increase by one gram each week. Three to four grams a day is the typical amount needed for full benefits. The amount in one 6-oz. yogurt is the same amount that is easily consumed from just eating a normal quantity of fruits and vegetables.
