 1. Resolution Success

So, it’s the end of January and it seems like you made your New Year’s resolutions to exercise, eat better, or stop watching too much television years ago. It hasn’t been that long and there’s still time to make it work.

Here are some tips for making that new habit stick.

Write it down
Writing things down makes them more concrete. But don’t write it down on a scrap of paper and throw it away. Write your goal down somewhere important—like a journal or in your day planner.

Keep your eye on the prize.
Hang your goals in places you will see them everyday. Put a reminder on the bathroom mirror, on the inside of the front door, or on your car’s dashboard. When you see the goal in front of you throughout the day, it’s hard to forget.

If you can see it, you can be it.
Visualization is a powerful tool that can help you reach your goals. If, for example, you want to run a road race, picture yourself crossing the finish line at the end of your first 5k. If you take time everyday to picture yourself meeting your goal, it will no longer seem impossible.

Get a buddy.
It’s not just misery that loves company. Success loves it too. Find a friend who has the same goal. Check in with each other and offer encouragement.

Reward yourself along the way.
You don’t have to wait for the final result to give yourself a gold star. At the end of each week treat yourself to something that makes you happy—as long as it doesn’t interfere with the ultimate end result.

Be patient.
If at first you don’t succeed…try, try again. Falling off the wagon is not the end of your resolution. Just start over. Experts say it takes 21 days to quit one habit and start a new one. Once you’ve been eating healthier or going to the gym regularly for 21 days, suddenly it’s not so tough.

Just do it.
Make up your mind to live a happier, healthier life. Then go out there and do it.

Perfect Tzatziki with Cumin Pita Triangles
Warm pita bread meets cool yogurt dip in this lowfat snack or appetizer. Straining the yogurt beforehand results in a thicker, creamier dip.
Yield: 1 1/2 cups (6 servings)
Preparation time: 75 minutes
Difficulty Level: Moderate

Ingredients:
1 container (16 ounces) Horizon Organic fat free plain yogurt
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded and finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh mint, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon red wine vinegar or fresh lemon juice
freshly ground black pepper
6 loaves pita bread
ground cumin, to taste

Directions:
Spoon yogurt into strainer lined with a coffee filter or cheesecloth and set in a bowl. Drain for one hour in the refrigerator. Place the chopped cucumber in another strainer, sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and drain for one hour.

When yogurt and cucumbers have drained, preheat oven to 325 degrees. Sprinkle each pita with ground cumin and wrap the loaves together in a piece of aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes until warm.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl combine the strained yogurt, cucumber, salt, garlic, chopped herbs, olive oil, vinegar and pepper.

Remove pita bread from oven, cool slightly, and then cut into quarters. Serve warm pita triangles with dip.

Dip can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one week. The dip is also great served with fresh vegetables or as an accompaniment to grilled lamb or gyros.
