Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a standard 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oat bran, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, melted butter, molasses, milk, and applesauce. Add the wet ingredients to the dry all at once and mix gently only until incorporated; do not overmix. Divide the batter evenly among the 12 muffin cups (they will be quite full). Bake in the preheated oven for 18 minutes, until the tops of the muffins are firm and springy to the touch. Spiced bran muffins can be stored at room temperature for three days in an airtight container, or frozen for up to three months. *Use 100% oat bran, which is sold like oatmeal in the hot cereal section of most grocery stores.
